Our Favorite Air Fryer Cooking Tips

Cooking's never been easier with the air fryer!

Air fryers are becoming popular nowadays due to their promise of utilizing less oil for frying leading to healthy meals that are crispy and taste just as good. Another benefit of air fryers is they are quicker than normal convection ovens.

Here are a couple of hints and tricks to make better meals from your air fryer for all the family:

1. Spray the oil

Spraying the oil rather than pouring allows you to use far less, making air-fried meals even healthier.

One great tip is to spray the insides of a bowl and toss your food in that bowl ensuring each piece receives a thin coating of oil.

Halfway through the cooking time, have a peek and, if necessary, give another quick spray, especially with food that is absorbent, such as potatoes.

2. Use breadcrumbs

Food coated in breadcrumbs produces an even crunchier result. Spritz each piece with the oil and dip in the breadcrumbs for a delicious and crispy result. Why not experiment with different types of breadcrumbs, sesame bread crumbs are delicious for an Asian take on fried chicken – or use regular breadcrumbs and mix in some sesame seeds.

Mixing the breadcrumbs into some beaten egg whites and the coating the food with this mixture produces an awesome result.

3. The use of aluminum foil reduces cleaning time

Using a piece of folded aluminum foil (tin foil) in the air fryer, with your food on top means that you need only remove the foil after cooking, negating the need to wash up after every use.

4. Add a little water to prevent smoking

If you’re cooking fatty foods, such as hamburgers or bacon, your air fryer can produce a little smoke. Prevent this by adding a tiny amount of water to the tray prior to cooking. This stops the oil from getting too hot and starting to smoke.

5. Shake the basket during cooking

By giving the basket a shake halfway through the cooking process, you ensure that the food is cooking evenly, and crisping correctly.

6. Never overfill the basket

Allow plenty of space inside the fryer for the air to circulate. This ensures maximum crisping potential.

7. Preheat your Air Fryer

By preheating your air fryer, it prevents the food from going soggy, and allows it to crisp quickly. Because it is going straight into a hot environment, it has no chance to absorb a lot of moisture and can reach full crispiness.
